Child, Adult and Family Clinician
I’m an adoptee in long-term recovery, and my own experiences are a big part of what led me to become a therapist. I know firsthand what it can be like to struggle with depression, shame, low self-worth, addiction, and a sense of not quite belonging. I also know that understanding how being adopted fits into all of that can take time, and that adoption doesn’t have to explain everything to matter.
I work primarily with adult adoptees and adolescents. If we’re working with your younger kiddo, we should probably do a family session or two, too.
My approach is relational, psychodynamic, attachment-focused, and trauma-informed. In English: I want to understand what happened to you, how you learned to survive it, and whether some of those old solutions are creating problems today.
There’s a saying I love: “Be the person you needed when you were struggling.”
As an adoptee therapist I have the privilege of being able to do that with the people I work with. What I needed was someone to help me explore the story underneath the story, care for the tender parts that hurt, recognize what is already strong, and discover what might be possible.
