I want to share with you about the power of your book. I am currently working with a family who has been struggling to inform their teen daughter about her birth mother re-entering their community. They knew they needed to tell her, but they were very afraid and didn’t know how to do it. During a recent support group, they mentioned the upcoming birthdays of their daughter’s birth siblings. I shared about your candle ritual activity and suggested this as a way to honor birth family, explore feelings, and open a discussion. This Saturday they came to group and shared that they did the activity. Not only did they have special time to honor birth family, it also created a safe space for them to share about the birth mother. We have been working toward this for 3+ months; your activity was the catalyst for making it happen. This email doesn’t fully articulate the beauty of the situation, but both parents and daughter were empowered to explore something that was vitally important, yet incredibly difficult. Thank you so much for sharing your insight, expertise, and interventions with us. We are all making a positive difference, one family at a time.
